When testing the viability of the laser cut phone holder, most of the early models were cut and folded by hand. This allowed for more rapid exploration and alterations.
An important part of the process was seeing how people reacted to the prototypes for the first time, when given no other information about what the device did.
This helped to inform future iterations, building upon the strengths of successful versions and redesigning elements that weren't obvious, so that the process could be as intuitive as possible.
